Photography workshop with Mauro Cararro. The event was free to attend and fully booked, and provided under 25’s with the opportunity to learn skills from a Master of their trade! Mauro has photographed everyone from her late Majesty The Queen, David Bowie, front covers of magazines the world over. The free to attend event included a location shoot for attendees and in true Mauro style each attendee was ‘papped’ during their time on location. The organisation will be holding more of these workshops and opening up opportunities to schools and colleges, to raise aspirations of young people and provide skills for those who are already active in an early career or seeking to embark upon one.

Congrats to Clodagh for her beautiful flag and for making the City’s news!

We’re looking forward to the next Mentoring session to hear what he has created!

We were proud and honoured to receive this prestigious Award at a wonderful evening hosted by Essex Community Foundation.

Appointment of new Director

We are delighted to welcome onboard friend and ambassador of the organisation to a new role as Director. Gary Hutton is an award winning documentary maker on knife crime who was recently awarded The Freedom of The City of London for his work steering young people away from poverty based exploitation for the past two decades in London.

Gary has been behind the scenes of the organisation for sometime now, so it made sense for him to take a lead role as a Director. Gary’s life has been catastrophically affected by violence, he was first stabbed aged 10 years old, and has lost trusted people to knife crime.

Gary is CEO of Product of A Postcode and the two organisations will be announcing some exciting news in the coming months with plans for national activities.

Gary’s role will predominantly be to develop the organisations education and personal development mentoring programmes, with a core focus on poverty based exploitation.

Trademark approved! As part of the Knife Angel legacy we are campaigning to have a National vigil for lives lost to Youth Violence. Whilst all lives lost are important, this initiative is designed to focus on the roots of violence. Childhood trauma is the root cause of most violent acts, and many violent perpetrators who offend in adulthood have a root cause of youth violence. We are delighted to have secured a trademark protection - the first National Vigil took place on September 25th, 2021. Wh we developedilsing this initiative we were not aware the in America the National day for Victims of Murder takes place on September 25th at the lack of any description of National initiate for lives lost to Youth Violence came about in January 2021 whilst planning the Chelmsford vigil and so we set about creating an initiative whereby the Chelmsford vgigil might be emulated in other towns and Cities across the UK. ON September 25th 2021, invitations were accepted by Liverpool, Bolton and London to join in and create their own vigils. Due to the National Day for Murder Victims in the US being 25th September, we have moved that date and details shall follow. Please contact us if you wish to be part of this inititave. Youth violence is defined by the World Health Organisation as a crime perpetrated by, or against, an individual between the ages of 10 and 29 years old and we hope to inspire young people to understand what youth violence is and how they might be able to be part of the change.

KNIFE ANGEL CHELMSFORD ARRIVAL

JULY 30TH 2021

The team travelled to Leicestershire’s Savfest to see anti violence campaigner Eugene Scardifield recite his poem about violence. The team at Savfest introduced us to Eugene when we put out an appeal for speakers against violence as part of our Knife angel vigil happening in September. Eugenes powerful reciting had us moved and we are looking forward to bringing him to Chelmsford to recite his poem - dedicated to his brother Michael, who was murdered by way of strangulation in 2016. Eugene works to keep his brothers memory alive by writing poetry to support other bereaved families. What a honour to meet you Eugene! Special thanks to Safest team for the introduction too.

May 2021

Whilst planning the Knife Angel Chelmsford vigil, it came t o our attention that there is no national day to recognise youth violence. Our Founder set about creating a national vigil and created a petition to get the incentive backing. As part of the vigil other cities were invited to hold their own vigil to co inside with Chelmsford’s event and a petition was started. Link to petition here
